The boys start a new season of Little League baseball

Derek and Jason start of new season of Little League baseball of PVLL. Derek is on the Minors Cubs and Jason is on the Farm Red Sox. This is Derek's second year in minors and he is looking forward to a great year. If will fun for him to be one of the "old" guys on the team. Jason is playing Farm for this first time. He was bored with Tball last year and is really looking forward to hitting off the machine in live game situations.

Last weekend I took both boys to the practice field and had Derek pitching from the mound. He was throwing strikes and looking good, so I decided to add a wrinkle. I had Jason step into the batters box, mostly so Derek could throw in a situation that mimicked a real game. To my surprise, Jason hit three out of the first five strikes! I was really impressed and expect good things from both boys this year. Who knows, maybe Jason will fill in a minors game later this year.

Junior Lakers

Derek and Jason are playing summer basketball at the Torrance YMCA. It's funny, but since we are in LA, every team is named the Lakers. I feel sorry for the Clippers, but you need to win to earn respect. The boys are having a ton of fun, plus Lisa and I get a kick out of seeing them compete. Here's a recent photo from the gym.

Roah Family Spring Break 2009

We just returned from a great family vacation over the kids' Spring Break. The trip started with a few days by the pool at the Hyatt Grand Champions in Indian Wells, then we drove to Death Valley for three days at the Furnace Creek Inn. On the way home, we made a detour and stayed an extra day at the Kern River and even caught a few fish.

These pictures don't do the trip justice. I hope to organize the video we took and prepare a short recap.
